JICOT (2010)
Under the patronage of HE Prof. Adnan Badran, Senator and President of Petra University and Honorary President of JTA, The Second Jordan International Conference on Translation (JICOT 2) will take place from (30 November-2 December 2010). Representatives of the translation and interpreting sector will gather in Jordan to attend the international conference: "Translation: Science, Art, or Skill?". It is being organized by the Jordanian Translators' Association and Petra University. Experts from a variety of translation fields will meet to exchange ideas and establish new contacts.
Speakers and participants representing translation teaching, translation and interpreting, and translation industry, will come together to engage in discussions with themselves as well as with translation students, interpreters and translation service providers. The underlying purpose is to analyse current translation challenges and developments. The items on the agenda include new job profiles, changing customer requirements, quality management, and new technologies. The conference program also embraces a job exchange and trade exhibition.
Goals and benefits of the Conference
* Promoting the importance and activating the practice of translation in Jordan from various languages into Arabic and vice versa so as to contribute to the development of the translation movement in Jordan and abroad.
* Exchanging relevant translation expertise and information, and maintaining close relations between Jordanian translators and scholars on the one hand and others of the like on the other.
* Forging links between translation service providers and customers.
* Learning about new developments in the profession.
* Sharing ideas and experiences.
* Knowing the products and services available to translators and interpreters.
* Engaging in inspiring discussions with experts on the challenges facing the profession.
JICOT (2009)
Under the patronage of HE Minister of Culture, The first Jordan International Conference on Translation JICOT 1 took place from July 28 to 30, 2009, representatives of the translation and interpreting sector gathered in Jordan to attend the international conference "Translation Quality Assurance and Management". It was being organized by the Jordanian Translators' Association and ASBAT House for Translation and Conferences. Experts from a variety of fields met to exchange ideas and establish new contacts.
Speakers and participants representing translation business, institutions, and education came together to engage in discussion with interpreters and translation service providers. The underlying purpose was to analyse current challenges and developments. The items on the agenda included new job profiles, changing customer requirements, quality management, and new technologies.
